MGX Partners with Xeikon to Offer Xeikon-Ready Metalized Substrate Enhancement

Written by Theresa on August 24, 2010 No Comments

Fenton, MO August 24, 2010 – Masterpiece Graphix (MGX) of St. Louis, Missouri, has partnered with Xeikon, a pioneer in digital color printing, to offer metalized substrate enhancement services for the Xeikon label presses. Xeikon-authorized MGX Brilliant Metalized Paper/Perm/40# (R1361) will be one of the substrates running on the Xeikon 3500 digital press at the Labelexpo 2010 show in Chicago, IL. Xeikon is exhibiting at Booth 6135, Hall F at Labelexpo.

MGX’s R1361 has been enhanced with a digital topcoat and is authorized for use on all the Xeikon label presses for the best possible image quality and toner adhesion.  MGX also offers Xeikon-authorized enhanced metalized material solutions for synthetic substrates such as BOPP and polyester.

According to Filip Weymans, Business Development Manager – Labels & Packaging, Xeikon, “We are excited about our partnership with MGX. Our presses work exceptionally well with most standard self-adhesive label substrates without any pre-treatment or coating (Paper and BOPP). In case of MGX’s R1361 Metalized substrate, a digital topcoat is required to optimize the image quality and adhesion. All the MGX substrates that we have tested work really well with our presses. We will demonstrate this at Labelexpo.”

“We are all about creating materials that enhance digital printing performance,” said Doug Watson, President of Masterpiece Graphix. “We have a high regard for Xeikon and it is a privilege to develop materials for them.”

The Xeikon 3500, launched at IPEX 2010, addresses the need for more production capacity. It can handle scalable media widths up to 20.3 inches, a significant size increase that allows label converters to digitally address a wider range of applications with 1200 dpi imaging quality. In addition, it can handle monthly duty cycles up to 3.8 million square feet.

The Xeikon 3500 is ideal for the production of self-adhesive and heat transfer labels. Equipped with high-precision LED-based imaging heads, it generates excellent image quality. The press is equipped with 5 color stations, 4 for the standard process colors while the 5th allows the use of spot colors. Print speed of the press is unaffected by the number of colors used as well as the repeat length of a label. The Xeikon 3500 can also apply a special security toner for anti-counterfeiting applications, and ‘one-pass’ opaque white to create a desired ‘no-label/label-less look’ on transparent labels. It runs on Xeikon’s new QA-I toner, which meets all the applicable FDA standards for indirect and direct contact with dry food items.

Written by Theresa on June 17, 2010 No Comments

Masterpiece Graphix has finalized plans to more than double the size of its Fenton, Missouri facility, and to add a fourth digital coating line. These improvements will give MGX more coating capacity, increased throughput, and the ability to coat materials at higher speeds. This expansion will be complete in September.

The new high-speed coating line is state-of-the-art with the latest coating and curing technology for pristine clean and flawless coatings of all types. Plans for another sheet coating line are underway, as demand for MGX high-performance digital sheets hasincreased dramatically.

Larger office space will accommodate the rapidly-growing staff in the MGX corporate office. Twice the warehouse space will allow ample storage capacity for stocked digital sheet and roll materials. MGX maintains custom stock programs, keeping customers’ unique list of materials in stock, ready to ship the same day, and reducing the need for large inventory levels at the customer’s facility.

“We are excited about this expansion,” said Doug Watson, president and CEO of Masterpiece Graphix. “What makes MGX unique is that we coat and stock hundreds of digital materials, because digital customers demand a huge variety of options. This expansion will allow us to better serve our customers’ needs for top-quality digital materials, custom stocking programs, and quick ship service. I’m certain our growth and increased production capacity will facilitate growth and efficiencies in our customers’ businesses as well.”

MGX Customer & Digital Printer Lightning Labels Featured in packagePRINTING

Written by Theresa on February 23, 2010 No Comments

Longtime MGX customer Lightning Labels is featured in the February 2010 issue of packagePrinting, as a HP Indigo user and digital printer. An all-digital label printer based in Denver, Colorado, Lightning Labels has found success in producing short-run, high-quality label jobs using HP Indigo technology.

Lightning Labels has been a faithful customer of Masterpiece Graphix for some time, utilizing MGX’s coating technology to optimize their digital substrates.  Peter Renton, company founder and director of business development, had this to say about Lightning Label’s relationship with MGX:

“As with the great majority of substrates printed on HP Indigo presses, the substrates need to be top-coated before printing. ‘We outsource our top-coating to Masterpiece Graphix (www.mgxdigital.com) in St. Louis,’ reports Renton. ‘They order uncoated material from the material vendors, coat it themselves, and then ship to us. It is a system that has worked well for many years.’”

MGX Announces New High Performance Coatings for the EFI Jetrion Press

Written by Theresa on February 18, 2010 No Comments

Fenton, MO February 18, 2010– Masterpiece Graphix (MGX) now offers both a matte and gloss substrate coating for the EFI Jetrion UV inkjet label press, giving Jetrion users more

substrate options to choose from. MGX has tested these coatings on paper and film materials, with successful results in both cases. EFI Jetrion users can have their preferred substrate digitally optimized with either coating option.

The MGX glossy substrate coating complements the glossy characteristics of the Jetrion’s ink, for a complete, high-gloss label finish. The matte substrate coating is useful for highlighting the Jetrion’s glossy ink, making the printed ink stand out on the matte material.

MGX partnered with EFI Jetrion to coat materials for the Jetrion 4000 and 4830 industrial inkjet roll presses, coating substrates for the Jetrion as an EFI certified treatment center. In addition, MGX has the capability to coat substrates for other UV inkjet press technologies.

Currently Masterpiece Graphix offers an EFI-certified material for the Jetrion: 54# Semigloss/Rubber-Based/40# (R1338). As part of the EFI and MGX partnership, every new Jetrion press purchase ships with a free roll of this material.

In addition to the EFI-certified material, MGX has also offers two Jetrion-compatible substrates: 2.3 mil white BOPP and 57# Semigloss/Perm/40#.

Masterpiece Graphix Named as a Distributor for acpo Digital Overlaminates

Written by Theresa on February 11, 2010 1 Comment

Masterpiece Graphix  (MGX), a digital coating company and HP-Certified Treatment Center, has partnered with acpo, a manufacturer of polyester and polypropylene PSA roll label films, to distribute acpo’s new line of digital self-wound overlaminates to HP Indigo users and other digital press operators.

Acpo’s range of self-wound digital laminates are engineered with an innovative adhesive formula, forming a secure bond with oil-based digital inks. In the past, digital users have expressed issues with lamination material when used with digital inks. Conventional laminates can pull apart from the digital ink over time, de-laminating from the substrate. MGX customers have tested the new acpo digital laminate, and have confirmed that the new laminate technology adheres securely and does not pull apart when used with digital inks. This breakthrough allows for additional protection of digitally printed materials from scratches and environmental stresses.

Acpo digital overlaminates offer durability, scratch resistance and in many cases, UV protection to a digital label. The material is offered in a range of thicknesses and finishes to meet the customer’s desired application requirements.

Masterpiece Graphix is offering sample rolls of the digital overlaminate by request.  In addition, MGX will package a roll material order with the acpo overlaminate, so customers can receive all the digital materials they need at the same time, in one order.
